XiTRACK™ Projects: Bletchley Site Treatment
Bletchley
S&C
The
switch at Bletchley South was treated early in 2000 to
correct vertical and lateral stability problems on this this
high-speed section of the West Coast Main Line. The site
had been a major maintenance headache for some time with
imposed speed limits until XiTRACK was applied.
“The XiTRACK-treated S&C site on the WCML to the
south of Bletchley station has been performing without any
maintenance attention or loss of alignment for over 3
years. This has a freight turnout and is rated at 110mph,
the maximum static axle load is 25T and the average
traffic is 30MGT per year.
The long-term cost-effectiveness of XiTRACK treatment of
this
site compares very
favourably with
the pre treatment
maintenance schedule costs. The site was successfully
treated by XiTRACK in March 2000 and since then no ballast
maintenance or realignment work has been required at the
site; no speed restriction has been applied to it. Previously the alignment had to be corrected at least
three times a year.”

This
XiTRACK-treated site (now rated at 125mph) is still
performing without maintenance or speed restriction more
than seven years after application.
Bletchley IBJ
Following on from the successful performance for over four
and a half years of the XiTRACK treatment of the Bletchley
switch, a problematic IBJ was treated within the Bletchley
South complex.
The IBJ had suffered vertical alignment problems after
upgrade of the line to 125mph. The XiTRACK treatment
stabilised the ballast around the joint and it is
performing as expected nearly four years later.
