XiTRACK™ Projects: Harford
In
2003 the XiTRACK technique was used at Harford to
laterally reinforce and stabilise a series of conjugated
transitions on to typical direct-fastened timber deck
bridges which are situated on a weak embankment and
curves. XiTRACK was
selected as conventional methods had failed to solve the
persistent lateral track geometry faults that occur with
this combination of factors. Such sites are often considered
‘unmaintainable’ as it is common for the fault to
quickly return after maintenance or, as in this case,
shortly after renewal.
XiTRACK treatment removed the persistent lateral track
faults around these transitions where tamping is difficult
or impossible and no lateral re-alignment has been needed
since the application.
The treatment area was adjacent to a river and all
requirements of the Environmental Agency were met.
