XiTRACK™ Projects: Keadby
Drawbridge & Abutments
Keadby
drawbridge lies on the Doncaster to Scunthorpe Line, over
the Stainforth and Keadby Canal. The bridge is opened by
hydraulic jacks and is located on the floodplain of the
River Trent; track loading conditions are high with
freight trains transferring coal to the local power
station. It
carries around 60% of all the total freight on the UK rail
network.
The
bridge was replaced in 2003 and since construction there
have been alignment problems due to movements within the
abutments and substructure arising from train loading and
bridge draw movements.
The result of these movements has been the
enforcement of speed restrictions and holding works.
XiTRACK
treatment was applied to produce GeoComposite
reinforcement of the transitions on both the East and West
abutments at this important structure. The complex XiTRACK design meant that on-site procedures had
to be carefully co-ordinated and supervised considering
the extensive scope of the work.
The
XiTRACK application was completed within schedule and
subsequent monitoring has confirmed that the transitions
have performed as expected.
